Motor Fire update near Yosemite

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Inside the motor home there were problems with the propane and people jumped out. They were disconnecting their car when it blew up. No one hurt.

The Sierra National Forest is the fire control management agency. The 250 room Cedar Lodge Motel and about 24 homes in the nearby Incline Road housing area were evacuated Friday. There is VERY little coverage of this fire.  The National Fire incident page has not been updated with new content since yesterday. The fire “info hotline” (209) 372-0327 has never answered when I’ve called. Even the San Jose Mercury News had nil on it today. Yet some people step over a protective railing and slide over Vernal Fall and it’s HOT news. Unknown when it will be contained and Hwy 140 reopened.

If you are booked at the Cedar Lodge soon, suggest you get alternate accommodations. Try the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland on Hwy 120.

Kinda sad that this fire gets little attention. Unfortunately, once it starts consuming houses , it will gain interest from the media. Any word on the 2 remaining persons missing from Vernal falls?

I have reservations at Bear Creek Cabins starting Monday – even if I can get am, am I going to enjoy it?

    Good afternoon!
The fire service at 209-372-0329 did answer for me this morning and said that things were coming under control but there were still pre-evacuation plans just in case. 140 remains closed with no immediate plans to re-open. When I spoke to Cedar Lodge (where we hope to be tomorrow night) said that the firre is reported as being under control but the road was still closed because the fire crews needed to be able to move freely about till further notice. A nice lady at the lodge sounded hopeful for our chances to be able to stay tomorrow.
    Cheers,
    Mary Beth

Well, duh, yes!!!! Nice cushy beds, huge closet, old tyme furnishings. Dinner was very $$$ but good. What was funny was that during the initital Motor fire when power was out at most of the park for a while….the Ahwanee had generators going. But they apologized that the A/C was not running. We had to open the windows to sleep. Sigh.

I work at a TV station just south of you in the Salinas – Monterey area, and we have had coverage every single day with updates on the size and video. We mentioned it last night as well.
