****Updated 10 pm, PDT—>  According to witnesses, a man and a woman climbed over the safety rail and put their feet in the water. The couple then encouraged their children to come over because of the amazing view, before the kids climbed over to join them, the couple started slipping. A male family member jumped the railing to try and help them, but he too went over the edge of Vernal Fall.****

YOSAR is currently looking for one or more people who may have gone over Vernal Fall this afternoon. Several hikers reported seeing such. The Mist Trail is closed pending the search. Hikers can still get to Half Dome but will need to go via the John Muir Trail (one mile longer) to avoid the closed lower Mist Trail. This may last until noon Wednesday or longer.  Here’s my photo of the edge on Saturday.

On a happier note, I’m glad to see that so many people are connecting through this blog for permits. This one came in today at 10:42 am

I have 4 permits for this Sunday July 24th if anyone is interested! Otherwise I’m just going to release them back to NPS but I thought I would give them up here first! ginnybliss@gmail.com

….Dunno if they are still available. If you need permits you have to be persistent:  KEEP CHECKING

Here’s a shout out to a few of the many fans I met on the trail.

It’s great to meet Mr. Half Dome! It’s only trip #4 for me. Thanks for the photo!

Do you carry your pack all the way up? I never do, other hikers Chase the critters away from my pack. People told me a squirrel was starting to open a zipper last month. With the CABLES DOWN, I could not risk the weight throwing me off balace or slowing me down. It is just a pack. A little hole or two would just be battle scars!

It’s just your body. You are very unwise to go up the cables without the support poles and boards. Really – but if you feel macho – it’s wilderness where you are supposed to assess the risk then deal with it. … and you can do what you want. But I DO NOT suggest to anyone to do that. You’ll have to wait unitl late October to cleanse the gene pool. Don’t bother carrying your organ donor card – there will be few body parts to salvage.
