Long time readers of the blog may recall Sister Kathy. She is aka “The Hiking Nun.” I met her at a talk I did at the Fremont REI about 3 years ago. She was a super audience. She came to 2 of my talks and wanted to know all about the Half Dome hike. She was a bulldog in training and even did Yosemite Falls for practice. She later moved to Sonora to St Patrick’s to do her “community” nun work – no habit. She also hiked the High Sierra Camps with me when the “controlled burn” fire was blazing in 2009. She is featured on my free Half Dome app (see link above) as one of my enthusiastic veterans – giving motivation to newbies. Check it out.

Today was her 25th anniversary as a catholic sister, plus she may be moving on to another parish soon. I drove the 3-hour trip to enjoy a great pot luck lunch then was among 8 speakers with kind (and funny) words to share. I gave her a bottle of  Carpe Diem Wine. It’s nice to share the fellowship of a good person. I hope she lands somewhere near her beloved Yosemite.

Unrelated thought worth quoting:So this ain’t the end – I saw you again today. Had to turn my heart away. You smiled like the Sun – kisses for everyone and tales – it never fails!” – Barracuda, Heart

Kathy, congratulations to your anniversary and good luck whereever the “new trail” takes you. I know that you are a very dedicated Half Dome/Yosemite veteran and therefore you deserve nothing but the best. 🙂

  2. Kathy Says:

Thank Sonke. Although we have never met, I will think of you when i crack open that bottle of “Carpe Diem” wine. 🙂
