I have no clue where Waldo is …but Mr Half Dome sits near Sun Valley Idaho on a wet Harley. The band of gypsies intended to get to Yellowstone…but the ice machine in the sky is dumping stuff.

Rain and snow showers along with isolated thunderstorms will increase over the area late Saturday night and Sunday with snow levels near 9000 feet. Significant rainfall is possible Sunday into Sunday night.

Bummer. So we head west through Idaho and to Oregon to stay dry and warm. Good thing I brought my full rain suit.  Well, I know Yosemite is best. My next hike up Half Dome is July 4. It sure would be neat to fire off Roman Candles form the top. Actually back on July 3, 1904 Jack Kelsey, Milton Main, Lester Jordan carried dynamite up Half Dome and set it off. From the SF Chronicle:

“We tried our dynamite and were amply rewarded for our risk in bringing it by the echoes resounding back and forth from dome to dome. We followed with Roman candles, skyrockets and red fire, and went to sleep contended with our celebration of the Fourth near the top of the world”.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: It’s never too late to become what you might have been.” -George Elliot

YES! Roman Candle, one of those fountain things and, and one of those really big charcoal snakes. Go for it. I’ll post your bail at US Marshall’s office when I get there on the 10th so we can attempt the Diving Board on the 15th. Take pictures.

I have a permit for 7/4 as well. I guess I’ll be packing my book, “One Best Hike……”‘ in hopes of running into the author for an impromptu book signing. Oh, and I guess I gotta pack a pen as well.

Downloaded the app last week but haven’t played with it yet. I’ll let you know what I think.
On 7/3 I’ll be eating chicken fettuccine for dinner somewhere between Clouds Rest and the shoulder of HD. We’ll have an early HD summit so I hope to catch you on your way up as we are heading down. I do think that a book signing on the trail is way cooler than at a bookstore.
    Have fun!

We d arrived in the astonishingly beautiful Yosemite National Park and were given a choice of activities to do the following day..The option which caused the biggest stir was the chance to hike to the top of Half Dome a huge piece of granite with an elevation of more than 2 500 metres the top of which can only be reached on foot..Everyone in the group looked at each other wondering whether they should go for it. The other two accompanying me on the walk emerged bleary-eyed from their respective tents and together with our guide we stumbled our way towards Half Dome..Initially with my head feeling as if a kettle drum drummer was enthusiastically banging away inside my skull putting one foot in front of the other was proving to be a big ask. My lack of preparation was already showing me up and I took no pleasure in periodically holding up my group to catch my breath under the guise of tying my extremely loose and troublesome laces…Trevor enjoying a lightning-free time on top of Half Dome…The majority of the ascent involved walking.
