This afternoon I was listening San Francisco’ s mammoth radio station, KGO (ABC) at AM 810.  The host of the consumer show, Michael Finney, was saying how his listeners got Yosemite to change their policy for Half Dome permits. That from now on scalpers would be thwarted by having users show an ID that matched the name on the reservation. The problem is this NPS announcement was for CAMPING permits. .  . and did not apply to Half Dome.  There is no Press Release on the park website verifying his statement. If anyone out there has heard any substantive info – let us know.

In other park news, some delays may be experienced in the El Portal metroplex for a while. The 2011 Pavement Preservation project will spend up to $5M to apply seal coat over many of the existing asphalt roads in the El Portal area.  This is off  Hwy 140. The work includes crack sealing, pothole repairs, and a seal or thin overlay. Then after the seals have been placed, it will include restriping the roads that have been preserved. The work will be done between June 13 and August 26 between 5:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday thru Friday, with 15-minute delays.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Don’t let people drive you crazy when you know it’s in walking distance.” – A wise old man

I think what he meant, was in regards to the campsite reservations. Consequently, I don’t believe it was just “his” listeners who made Yosemite change the system.

It was a concerted effort by many people who have been calling, emailing, and talking in person with the Yosemite staff voicing their displeasures, opinions, and suggestions that actually led to the change.
