I’ve never met Alex Honnold. But he is one gutsy guy. I hope he sticks to the cliff faces and doesn’t become a smear. As you may recall, he set the world agog by going up the face of Half Dome free soloing in 2008. i.e. NO ropes, NO pitons, NObody else (except the cameraman who preceded him.) If you missed it here is a capitalistic move by North Face – a commercial with some of the highlights. Click <HERE>. I admire him because he is not a buff macho guy like Hans Florine or the Huber Brothers … just a guy who looks like he’d be more comfortable writing Java code for his iPhone app. Be careful dude.

By the way – the days ARE getting longer. The Big Lebowski comes March 13 – we switch to Daylight Savings then. YES!

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “One might stay here for months and see new beauties every day.” – Mrs. A.W. Gillette, Grass Lake, Michigan, 1874

Couldn’t agree more. He seems like a very down to earth-guy and his climbing is just OUTSTANDING.

Very shy in person. So sad that such great risks are taken. He will likely die like company others.

I believe when your number is called – you go. Be it in a car or cancer or off a 1,000 foot cliff….If he loves doing it, that’s his call. Not me.

      Carpe Diem

    Que Sera Sera.
