Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

The east coast has Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog that comes out on February 2 (Groundhog Day) to seek his shadow. The tradition has it that if  he does see it then there will be 6 more weeks of winter.  Did you know Yosemite has its own version of this ritual? Yes, our own marmot, Yosetawney Phil crawls out from his lair on the Sub Dome and peers out to find his shadow.

Today his cousin in Pennsylvania  did not see his shadow so those folks will see winter end soon. Yeah, right.  Out here the clear skies were a slam dunk and our furry friend portends another 6 weeks of cold and snow fun for our region.
Yosemite today announced the posting of several new documents relating to the Merced River Plan. Included are Public Scoping Comments, Revised Draft Outstandingly Remarkable Values and a Comparison of those ORVs over time. To learn more click <HERE>. Read it and get involved – it’s YOUR park.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “The longer we look the greater the scenes appear.” – Professor O.S. Fowler, Boston Mass, 1875
