Evergreen Lodge

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Now is the time to book your summer reservations for hard sided accommodations at Yosemite. But I know many will procrastinate and put things off another day until your Half Dome hike plans are firm. Well guess what … 4 million other folks are ahead of you. If you find yourself in a SOLD OUT situation,  I have an good idea … and this is NOT a paid plug – just a good idea I’m sharing.  Less than an hour from the Valley is  the Evergreen Lodge. It’s a few minutes off Hwy 120 on the road to Hetch Hetchy. The Evergreen is a large cabin complex (66 units) that has its roots back to 1921. The early facility supported the workers building the O’Shaugnessy Dam. In fact, the Evergreen is a great destination all by itself. Day hikes around the reservoir are nearby and the Lodge has a formal program of recreational activities for guests. Their expert guides conduct programs for hiking fishing, biking, rafting, snowshoeing and other tours. In fact, a fulltime outdoor programs person is employed to keep things lively. They have rooms to accommodate from 2 to 6 people. Rates are currently $89 to near $300. They also have a large gathering room and a rec room with ping pong tables. A rustic bar features pool tables and is adjacent to a very large dining room serving top flight fare. PC’s and wireless are free. Call them at 209-379-2606 or scope their website <here>.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Time has come today. Young hearts can go their way. Can’t put it off another day. I don’t care what others say  – they say we don’t listen anyway. Time has come today.” – Chambers Brothers
