Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Get or Give Half Dome permits<HERE>

I love to watch people having fun on the Half Dome hike. You gotta smile when you see a group like this trekking up to pay homage to the Dome.

They were from a Bay Area Junior High School. Pretty clever way to keep track of everyone. The balloons got a little deflated as the day wore on. Cool!
On Saturday,  a 42-year-old Spanish climber fell while speed climbing up the Nose on El Capitan. He was doing a pendulum traverse between 2 points when he lost control, swung for approximately 50 feet, and hit the wall. He fell 80 feet below his last anchor. Thud. YOSAR plucked him and he is now in Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. So far no one has fallen off Half Dome. Knock on granite!

WoW! 100 Degree weather in Fresno and Los Angeles next week and it is practically October. 80 and Sunny Bay Area. Will the cables stay up extra days if the weather is divine in ynp?

  3. mrhalfdome Says:

nay…they come down on schedule Oct 12.

So, they NEVER leave the cables up more than about a day after Columbus day no matter how pleasant the conditions?

      • mrhalfdome Says:

The NPS is a huge organization and they have schedules to meet. The Trail Cew is booked to remove the cabls on Oct 12. It ususaly takes 2 days to get the poles out, the boards removed, everything piled up and secreted to a storage area. They can’t be playing “oh, just one more day.”
