Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Get or Give Half Dome permits<HERE>
First off, the winner of the FREE tickets to Half Dome’s scary cables is Tim M. of Fortuna, CA. He had the correct answer of “tennis shoes” are Not Recommended for the hike. Good luck to others wanting permits. Keep checking the above link – yes, occasionally someone does post a few for give away.

Living in the South Bay Area, I prefer to head to Yosemite via Hwy 140 and Mariposa. The Central Valley roads are more sane and less crowded than 580/205/120. I’d like to point you to a nice spot for lunch coming or going. It’s a family run eatery/coffee show called the Pony Expresso in Mariposa.

Amy and her husband put out some of the best tri-tip sandwiches north of Santa Maria. They have ice tea for me and coffee for you caffeine addicts. They moved a while back from 7th street to a newer building at 5009 5th Street. It’s called “lower 5th” because you go down a steep hill south of the Main street, Hwy 140. The shop is clean and has wifi for a small fee to the provider. Tell them Mr Half Dome sent you.

Tiviata – I just checked the website and we’ve had 136,349 visits since I started it in April 2007. Nice. Knowledge is good.  Looks like a clear but HOT weekend at Yosemite with highs in the upper 90’s. Be SURE to stay hydrated. If it’s any help, the air temp goes down 3 degrees for every 1,000 feet you ascend!

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I drink alone, with nobody else. You know, when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.” – George Thorogood
