Museum Exhibit to see

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Get or Give permits<HERE>

After you do your Half Dome hike, be sure to leave time to explore a new exhibit at the Museum, located just down from the Visitor Center. It’s called “View & Visitors.” It features a room full of early park photographs, souvenirs, paintings, etc. A large flat TV monitor runs a slide show of dozens of olde tyme photos … also they have (under glass) the original “Grand Register of Yo-Semite Valley,” that was used at the Cosmopolitan Bathhouse and Saloon. It was located in Yosemite Valley from 1873 to 1884.  It is over 800 pages thick and weighs over 100 pounds. There are 18,000 signatures of people who stayed there – big names like Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Rutherford B. Hayes, and James Garfield.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” – John Muir, 1913
