Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Get or Give permits<HERE>
I’m joining the mob on this holiday weekend at Yosemite. I’ll be hiking up Half Dome on Monday after staying in the bear infested Little Yosemite Valley. Speaking of bears, there are now 142 reported bear incidents year to date totaling $48,000 in damages … with 18 just this week! Year to date, 53 were in parking lots and 29 in campgrounds. 6 bears have been killed by cars so far – SLOW down.
If you want a to buy one of my nifty T-Shirts soon, get your order in Friday and I’ll mail it Saturday. See <Ordering> Fer Shure I won’t be able to write a blog after tomorrow until I get back, so enjoy the holiday and don’t get burned playing with firecrackers. I will be driving to the park from San Jose-by-the-sea via Highway 140. From here I go down 101 to 152 towards Merced then up 59 and out 140 to the Arch Rock entrance. Way easier than the 580-205-120 route. Way less traffic and no harrowing mountain curves to negotiate. If you go this way, keep it slow – CHP loves to nail us rock huggers. They have radar than can get you as they drive towards you!
The Tuolumne Hikers Bus has begun operations. The bus departsYosemite Lodge at 8:20 AM and makes a stop at the Crane Flat Chevron at 9:05 and flag stops at safe locations along the Tioga Road with the final stop at Tuolumne Lodge at 10:35 AM. The return trip departs Tuolumne Lodge at 2:05 PM, Crane Flat Chevron at 3:25 PM and arrives at Yosemite at 4:15 PM. Get out of the Valley. I suggest the hike to Glen Aulin and down to Waterwheel Falls.
The park has extended the comment period for the Half Dome Trail Stewardship Plan until July 6. If you were on Venus during the prior period, how about getting your comment in. See <HERE>
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “They’re coming to take me away, ha-haaa! They’re coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa. To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I’ll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they’re coming to take me away, ha-haaa!” – Napoleon XIV
