Stairs

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
My Half Dome training for the last 2 weeks has been extensive walking around the artifacts of Ancient  Civilizations, slogging out a few miles of Nordic Walking on the deck of the good ship Symphony and finally plowing up and down the staircases. Shown is my daily training machine.

The ship has 12 floors, but the usable floors that one would want to be seen in shorts and sweaty shirt are from 7 to 11. Plug in your earphones of your  iPOD and push GO.  It’s a great workout. Starting out with a brisk walk and progress to a nice jog up/down. All while smiling at guests heading to lectures or the casino. My next expedition up Half Dome is June 23. I am confident of a coming Sierra heat wave that will free up the snows on the sub dome hill and allow access to the cables.

It looks like it is going to heat up a little after this weekend. I just hope it is opened by June 17th. Preferably the cables will be opened by the 14th. I feel for everyone who has planned the hike and will miss it because of the snow.

The cables better be up before then! I’m going on the 9th. A coveted non-permit day.

    It is what it is.

    Be flexible.

I’m slated for the 11th. I figure I will still go and go as far up the trail as I can if the cables are not up. The falls should be spectacular!

Good plan, Laurie. We have another winter storm warning until 5am PST Friday May 28 Snow level 4500 ft. : ( But on another note, Laurie’s plan is good – go anyway, hike what you can and yes, the falls are more than spectacular this year – more water than ever.

UPDATE: It is supposed to be sunny Sat/Sun. so here’s hoping.

Might also consider wearing gaiters if the snows are on the trails.
