Yosemite is the people’s park – the NPS is merely the caretaker. Good to know the rangers are pretty highly trained. There is more to the job than putting on the uniform and wearing a smokey bear hat.

 Take a look at the educational classes they can take: Archeological Resources ProtectionTraining, Principles and Practices for Development of Effective Youth Programs, Technical Aspects of Underwater Recovery Training, Backcountry Tactics and Tracking Training, National Wilderness Stewardship Training Course,  Building Trust, Teams and Leaders: NPS Fundamentals, How to Succeed with Volunteers in Parks (given at Yosemite)  EEO Fundamentals for Supervisors, Equipment Operator Safety, Criminal Investigator Training, Methods and Materials for Maintenance of Historic Buildings, Certified NPS Structural Firefighter (taught at Yosemite), Preservation and Treatment of Park Cultural Resources, Historic Plaster Repair Workshop, Housing Management Course and Annual Law Enforcement Refresher. Hit the books, men and women!!
