The buck stops here

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

What you see here is an 6 point male mule deer. Big and strong. Maybe 200 pounds. I saw him the morning after a summer Half Dome expedition. Standing in Cook’s meadow.  I was on max zoom standing well away. Neat, but you should have seen the cars pulled over and the folks approaching as if it was Bambi. “Oh honey, get a shot of Little Timmy feeding him.” Not a good idea. Youcan’t legislate stupidilty. The only death in Yosemite from wildlife was a 7-year old boy who was gored to death. All fine until you run out of kibble.

Mt Hood news. Crummy viz hampering search for the remaining 2 missing hikers. More whiteouts and avalanches predicted. Not good.

The lower Mist Trail and the Four Mile Trail are closed for the season. When ice builds up it’s deadly. Don’t plan on using  these trails until late March or so.

If you plan to head to the park, R2 Road Conditions are in effect – this means tire chains or 4-wheel-drive with snow tires are required on Hwy 41, and Big Oak Flat Road including Hwy 120 west of Crane Flat.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: Feeling’s gettin stronger. Music’s getting’ longer too. Music is flashin’ me. I want to take you higher. Baby baby baby light my fire.  Boom shaka-laka-laka Boom shaka-laka-laka.” – Sly and the Family Stone
