New Gear – Osprey Bladder

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Our equipment department has found another new product for your consideration. If you like to carry your Half Dome hike water supply on your back, ala a “Camel Back”-like reservoir bladder system, take a look at what’s coming out in 2010 from Osprey. They call it the Manta 25 hydration pack. Nalgene makes the Hydroform Reservoir for Osprey. It has a foam back which makes the whole bladder rigid and free standing. This keeps the bladder from rolling into a donut. osprey manta 25 3It also has a plastic “handle” to assist in the carry process – as well when as refilling from a water filter pump. osprey manta 25 2These are big bags holding about 3 liters. Pricing and availability will be announced in the spring. If you want to migrate to some sexy technology, this pack might be the ticket!

Last call if anyone wants to join me for the Aug 13 hike up to watch the Perseid’s Meteor shower at midnight on the top of Half  Dome. Email NOW to MrHalfDome@gmail.com
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end. I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend. But I always thought that I’d see you again.” – James Taylor
